Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most about Dawn of Irkalla, answered as plainly as we can.
The game
What is Dawn of Irkalla?
A horror dungeon crawler with deck building. You descend into a dungeon between worlds, wielding ancient powers against creatures from beyond the veil, where victory is not always what the game tells you it is.
You grow stronger through skill trees, a deck of cards and account-wide unlocks, and the dungeon is full of lore, puzzles and secrets for anyone curious enough to look past their objectives.
When can I play it?
Early access opens on Steam on October 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM CST. Wishlist it on Steam and Steam will tell you the moment it does.
What can I play it on?
PC, through Steam, on Windows and Linux. That includes the Steam Deck.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. You can delve alone or with friends. Our Discord is the place to find a party, and the Dungeon Master bot there helps you put one together.
What does early access mean for Dawn of Irkalla?
The game is playable, and it is still growing. We will keep adding to it and changing it through early access, and a lot of what changes will come from what players tell us.
Who makes Dawn of Irkalla?
GreenMind Media, a small independent studio. Most of the game is the work of two people, Shawn and Dan, who build it alongside full-time jobs and families.
Your account and this site
How do I see my game account on this site?
Sign in here with your GreenMind account. Then start the game and sign in with GreenMind there too, using the same account. Your game account then shows up in the portal.
I found a bug or need help. Where do I go?
How do I delete my account?
Use "Delete my account" on your portal dashboard, or "Delete your account" at the bottom of any page on this site.
What do you do with my data?
The Privacy Policy explains what Dawn of Irkalla collects when you play, why it is kept, and what we do not do with it. The Cookies page lists every cookie this site sets and lets you choose which ones you allow.
The Supporter Pack
The Supporter Pack is entirely optional. It is there for players who want to back the game, and it comes with a few extras as our thanks.
Do I need the Supporter Pack to play?
No. Nothing in the dungeon is locked behind it, and you can play the whole game without ever buying it.
The pack does include gold and crafting powder, but both are earned by playing too. The pack gives you some sooner; it does not give you anything you could not get without it.
What do I get with the Supporter Pack?
Each pack comes with 1000 gold and 500 crafting powder, which are yours to keep, and 180 days of Dawn of Irkalla supporter perks:
- The supporter badge beside your name, which other players see (you can hide it)
- The portal's Inventory, Codex and Dungeon pages on this site
- The Dungeon Master bot's /inventory command in Discord
- The supporter role in GreenMind's Discord
Is it a subscription?
No. It is a one-off purchase that never renews by itself. When your 180 days run out the perks stop, and nothing more is ever charged.
Where do I buy it?
Inside Dawn of Irkalla. The purchase goes through Steam, and Steam shows you the price in your own currency before you confirm.
Can I buy it again?
Yes, once your 180 days have run out. Packs are bought one at a time, so you cannot stack a second on top of one that is still running. Every pack comes with its own gold and crafting powder.
How do I check how long I have left, or hide my badge?
Your GreenMind account shows how long your supporter perks have left, and has the switch that shows or hides your supporter badge.
I support GreenMind on Patreon. Is that the same thing?
No, they are separate. Patreon supports GreenMind Media as a studio and gives you the Patreon badge and the supporter role in GreenMind's Discord. The Supporter Pack is Dawn of Irkalla's own, and it is the one that opens the portal's supporter pages and the Dungeon Master's /inventory.
How we use AI
We want to be as honest and upfront as we can about how GreenMind uses AI in each of our games. This is the full account for Dawn of Irkalla.
Does Dawn of Irkalla use AI?
Yes, and we would rather tell you exactly where than leave you guessing.
We are two developers with engineering degrees, full-time jobs and families to feed. We wanted to build something ambitious, but we could not afford the artists and 3D modellers a game like this needs, and neither of us can make art.
So we use AI to fill the gaps we do not have the skills or the money to fill ourselves. It supplements our work; it does not replace work we could do or could afford to pay someone else for.
What did you use AI for?
Four things:
- Code: AI helps us write the game's code.
- Dungeon props: some of the props in the dungeon, where we could not find or afford an equivalent marketplace asset.
- Images and menu textures: many of the images and menu textures are AI generated. Wherever an existing asset pack fit, we bought it instead.
- Some sound effects: a few, where we simply could not find one that matched what we had in mind.
What was made without AI?
Everything else, including:
- The dungeon itself: painstakingly sculpted by hand.
- The music: composed and made by us, or purchased.
- The ideas, story, lore and game design.
- Animations, and many of the 3D models, images, plugins and assets, built by us or bought from artists. We have spent thousands of dollars on artist-made assets.
Why not pay artists for everything?
Where the money allowed, we did: thousands of dollars of artist-made assets are in the game. AI covered what was left after that. Without it, Dawn of Irkalla would not exist.
When we can afford it, we want to replace the AI art and models with artist-made work that better fits our vision.
Does the game generate anything with AI while I play?
No. Everything AI had a hand in was made during development and ships with the game; nothing is generated while you play. The monsters run on ordinary game AI, hand-built behaviour logic rather than generative AI, and the Dungeon Master in our Discord is a bot we programmed, not an AI chatbot.
Does the game tell players about this?
Yes. The first time you play, the game shows a note from us on how it was made and where AI was used. This page goes into more detail, and if the way we use AI changes, we will update both.
What if AI in games goes against my convictions?
We completely understand, and we would rather you know before you play than after. Thank you for giving us a chance either way.
